China’s Ministry Of Land & Resources Cracks Down On Land Hoarding
Land hoarding in is getting worse. China’s Ministry of Land and Resources is confiscating some sites to hammer home the seriousness of the situation. The Ministry of Lands and Resources said there were the more than 3,000 cases involving illegal land use, of which 2,800 were related to hoarding. Director General Liao Yonglin said 3,070 sites totaling 76,000 hectares were being used illegally as of the end of May. The Ministry of Land and Resources disclosed on its website yesterday a list of 1,457 development sites left undeveloped or behind schedule by several years. The list included two development sites, jointly owned by Hutchison Whampoa and Cheung Kong, in Beijing and Zhuhai.
The Ministry of Lands and Resources said it will reinforce campaigns to crack down on land hoarding and misuse by property developers in order to keep runaway housing prices in check.
